Reflection on the WTMF Congress 2026
International Knowledge Exchange on Traditional Chinese Medicine
On September 19 and 20, professionals and organizations from both home and abroad gathered in Amsterdam during the 8th World Traditional Medicine Forum (WTMF) 2026.
The NVA was also present. During the congress, there were ample opportunities for international meetings and exchanges regarding Traditional Chinese Healing Methods and various developments within the field.
Representatives from the NVA included several board members and delegates. We spoke with Mr. Yu Jian, cultural attaché of the Chinese embassy. Mr. Kim from the WHO also took the time to engage in conversation with us. Additionally, we met with representatives from the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies (WFAS), with whom we discussed international collaboration and the further development of the field.
The NVA members Janneke Vermeulen and Alex Tiemes made a wonderful contribution to the conference program. Janneke Vermeulen presented the results of the ANCAR study on acupuncture for nasal congestion due to allergic rhinitis. Alex Tiemes spoke about the international and interdisciplinary integration of acupuncture within sports rehabilitation.
The WTMF conference thus provided a valuable opportunity to exchange knowledge, strengthen existing international contacts, and establish new ones.
We sincerely thank Mr. Dong Zhilin for organizing the WTMF conference and for bringing together so many international professionals and organizations.
