The transition: a natural transition
From April 6 to 10, it is Menopause Awareness Week. A great opportunity to reflect on a life stage that every woman goes through, but which often does not receive enough attention. Menopause is more than just a physical change.
It is a period of new insights, challenges, and opportunities to rediscover yourself. However, this phase can be tough and may come with symptoms that significantly affect daily life, both at home and at work.
The impact of menopause on work
In the Netherlands, there are approximately 1.9 million working women between the ages of 40 and 65. About 80% of them experience menopausal symptoms, ranging from mild to severe. Research by TNO shows that a large portion of these women experience symptoms that impact their functioning at work.
Yet, the relationship between these symptoms and menopause is not always recognized. There is sometimes still a taboo surrounding discussing it. By fostering more openness and understanding, better support can be provided, allowing women to navigate this phase as smoothly as possible.
Acupuncture as support
If you are looking for ways to feel better during this phase, acupuncture is worth considering. Within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), menopause is seen as a period in which the body must adjust to find a new balance. Acupuncture can help you through this transition.
Women who have tried acupuncture often find that they sleep better, have more energy, and feel emotionally more stable.
Menopause deserves attention
Every woman experiences menopause in her own way. For some, it passes almost unnoticed, while for others, it has a significant impact.
That is why it is important to talk openly about it, at home, at work, and with healthcare providers. Menopause Awareness Week is the perfect time to make space for this.
